Las Alpujarras in early spring is a sight to behold. The hills are covered in purples, pinks and whites and the air is scented with the heady smell of blossom. The Sierra Nevada is still covered in snow and makes an amazing backdrop for our days walking.
With four nights in the excellent Hotel Alqueira De Morayma. All food and transport provided.
A 4 night short guided walking holiday in the winter sunshine of the Sierra Nevada and Las Alpujarras. The month February and March are fabulous opportunity to walk in the almond blossom of the Contraviesa. Walking through vineyards and almond groves, the pinks and purples, and scents of the almonds create a heady atmosphere.
Our three walks are all fairly leisurely but all different with great views and landscapes to walk through. The weather is usually dry and sunny at this time of the year. The temperatures will be good walking weather around 18oC in the sunshine but at night it will be cold. We will be staying the beautiful Alquiera De Morayma hotel for four nights. Eating in their lovely restaurant and enjoying the roaring fire.
Day 1 Thursday
Pick up from airport of your choice (Granada or Malaga )
Transfer to hotel and have welcome drinks, then evening dinner.
Day 2 Friday
Vineyards, Orchards and the Sierra Nevada 10 km 400m Descent (14km with extension)
Transport to Barranco Obscuro vineyard, where we start our walk down the Contraviesa mountain range. Walking downhill all day we will pass through almond orchards in full bloom with snow capped Sierra Nevada as the backdrop. Walk back to the hotel.
Day 3 Saturday
Walk into the Campo 10km (16km extension) 300m Dscent 200m Descent
A 20minute transfer from the hotel, takes us to the village of Juviles. We will join the GR7 trail and follow this down the spectacular gorge of El Fuete. The place of the longest siege in the Moorish conquest. After visiting this site we will walk though the village of Timar and then contour along an ancient Acequia(water canal) for lunch at the village of Lobras before afternoon walk back to the hotel.
Day 4 Sunday
The Home of Gerald Brennan - 15km
Walking from the hotel we walk along a dry river bed which takes us to the small village of Yator, where we have a coffee break. From here we walk uphill on a vehicle track to the hamlet of Monte Negro before we get to the village of Yegen. This is the 1920's home of the Hispanista Gerald Brennan.
Transfer back to Hotel(20mins)
Evening meal in hotel.
Day 5 Monday
Transfer back to Airport

A beautiful hotel with large rooms all with fabulous views of the Sierra Nevada. Large swimming pool open May – Sept. Wifi in bar/restaurant. Excellent restaurant.
