The Las Alpujarras in Andalucia, Spain is the place of the ‘Moors’ last stand. The whole of the national park of the Sierra Nevada is still rich with their legacy. You can see it in the architecture, the food and most of all the scenery. They have carved terraces out of the hillsides, creating amazing landscapes and irrigated the land using waterways, making lush valleys still used for agriculture today.
Our most popular holiday in the Sierra Nevada, this medium level walking holiday has been created for walkers who want to walk that little bit longer and also do some high level walks. The itinerary includes Siete Lagunas (2900 m) and the Berchules circuit walk.
A 7 night walking holiday based in the beautiful Sierra Nevada National Park and the heavily arabic influenced Las Alpujarras. We start high in the Poqueira Gorge in Capileira for 2 nights before walking East to Trevelez and the famous ‘jamon’ town. Here we spend a few nights before we walk down into the more mediterranean valleys of the Alpujarras.
Our most popular holiday in the Sierra Nevada, this medium level walking holiday has been created for walkers who want to walk that little bit longer and also do some high level walks. We will walk for around 6 -8 hours a day with plenty of stops to appreciate the stunning scenery. The paths are mostly good underfoot, there are some steep ascents and descents but nothing most people can not do.
Staying in local family run hotels(2* or 3*) and eating in good restaurants. Lunches will be a mixture of eating in bars or a picnic lunch.
Day 1
After being met at the Airport we transfer to Capileira, Hotel Finca los llanos.
Day 2
Hotel –Villages of the Poquiera Gorge 5-6 hours 9km 600m Ascent/Descent
We will walk from the hotel and descend to the river below Capileira and carry on don the river to the lowest of the villages, Pampaniera. From here we follow the GR7 up to Bubion before carrying back to Capileira.
Day 3
Sierra Mecina Circuit – 12km – 4-6hrs Ascent 200m/Descent 200m W6
A beautiful walk through the La Taha region. Walking on ancient mule tracks, you will walk through a varied landscape and visit some of the best unspoilt villages in the Alpujarras.

High Level Hike - 18km - 6 -8hrs Ascent/descent) 600m
Driving up to Hoya Del Portillo 2200m - we set off on a beautiful hike along two large acequias to the Refugio Poqueira(2600m) - where will stop for a drink and then return via a different higher acequia to the vehicles. A stunning hike with amazing views and wildlife all day.
Day 4
Check out of the hotel and transfer to Trevelez
Rio Trevelez walk – 16km - 6- 8 hours
A beautiful walk high up along the valley side, we follow the Rio Trevelez valley with some great views of the high Sierras—a chance to see Golden eagles.

Trevelez - Hotel Alquiera de Morayma - 18km 5-8hrs A beautiful walk through varied landscapes and walking through some beautiful white washed villages.

Day 6
Transfer to Berchules 15mins
Berchules Circuit - 15km 6-8hrs
A great walk taking in another valley that sweeps down from the Sierra Nevada. Walking to the moors last stand and then on and up, climbing through a cool pine forest. Before coming out for great views of the Las Alpujarras below.
Day 7
Transfer to Granada (1hrs 20min)
Check into Hotel Dauro.
A free day and night in Granada. The chance to visit the Alhambra, Flamenco, shopping or just walk around this beautiful city.
A visit to this region of Spain would not be complete without a day in the historic city of Granada and a trip to the amazing Alhambra palace. For the Alhambra you will need to reserve your own tickets. The website is - https://tickets.alhambra-patronato.es/en/
We will be in Granada from 11am – please do not get your ticket for the Nazrid Palaces before 12 noon. If you are struggling to reserve a ticket you can still get the Gardens, Alcazaba and Generalife ticket.
